Talk to anyone about their website and if they’ve got anything at all to boast about (besides how ‘pretty’ they think it is) is how much traffic they get (or don’t get).
One thing they almost never talk about is something that’s far less glamorous, but just as important: website conversion.
One of the great things about a well-designed website is that you can actually know exactly what happens to the people that visit your site. You can know if they buy something, or if they join your mailing list, or if they visit one page or five pages, or how long they stay on your site, and when and why they leave.
Heck, you can even find out why they came there in the first place.
And these are all things that are much harder to figure out if people are walking in and out of your shop or office.
So when you have a website, one of the most important things you can do is measure everything that happens on your site, and make changes so that people do what you want them to do.
That might be buy your product. It might be to contract with you for your services. Or it may just be to join your mailing list.
There are techniques to make sure that people do exactly what you want them to do.
And that is what website conversion is all about.
And here’s why it’s important.
If you’ve got 10,000 people a month coming to your website, and nobody buys anything, then what is that traffic worth?
But if you know you can convert as little as One percent of them to buy your $100 product, now you’ve got $10,000 in sales.
And that’s the start of a good business.
The problem is that while there are many things that can make someone buy from your website, there are far more that can cause people to not buy…and a few that will actually get your visitors to click away as fast as they can.
That’s bad news.
That’s why so many people ask me to help them make their website convert better. I wrote the Landing Page Cash Machine ebook back in 2004. It’s filled with 100 pages of techniques and advice for making your website sell better. The book is designed for do-it-yourselfers. If that’s you, go get the book and make your site perform better.
If that’s not you, then contact me and let’s see if we can get your site selling for you.
